What You'll Learn

Your body is amazing - it lets you run, play, learn, and experience the world. But sometimes, we focus too much on how our body looks instead of all the incredible things it can do.

This workshop will help you develop a healthy body image, appreciate what makes you unique, and understand that bodies come in all different shapes and sizes - and that's perfectly normal!

Key Learning Points

1

Your Body is a Tool, Not a Trophy

Your body's main job is to help you DO things - run, play sports, create art, hug friends. Its appearance is the least interesting thing about it!

2

Everyone is Different

Bodies naturally come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and abilities. There's no "perfect" body - diversity is normal and healthy.

3

Media Shows Fake Reality

Photos in magazines and social media are edited, filtered, and posed. They don't show real bodies - they show fantasies that even the models don't look like in real life!

4

Body Talk Matters

The way you talk about your own body and others' bodies affects how you feel. Positive, respectful body talk creates a healthier mindset.

Activity 1: What My Body Can Do

Focus on function, not appearance

List all the amazing things your body helps you do. Think about movement, senses, and abilities!

💪 Examples to Get You Started:

  • ✨ My legs let me run and play with my friends
  • ✨ My arms let me hug the people I love
  • ✨ My eyes let me see beautiful sunsets
  • ✨ My ears let me hear my favorite music
  • ✨ My hands let me create art and write

✍️ What MY Body Can Do:

Activity 2: Body Talk Check

Learn positive body language

Read each statement and identify if it's helpful or harmful body talk.

🔴 Harmful

"I hate my legs, they're too big/small/short/long."

🟢 Helpful

"My body is getting stronger every day I practice!"

🔴 Harmful

"She looks weird because she's too tall/short/thin/big."

🟢 Helpful

"I'm grateful my body works hard for me every day."

💭 Transform Your Body Talk:

Write three POSITIVE things you can say about your body:

Activity 3: Media Reality Check

Understand what's real and what's fake

Learn to spot the tricks that media uses to make bodies look "perfect".
Photo Editing: Almost all photos are edited with filters, smoothing, and color changes
Perfect Lighting: Professional lighting makes anyone look different than in real life
Posed Pictures: People take 100+ photos to get one "perfect" shot
Makeup & Styling: Professional teams spend hours making people look camera-ready
Body Doubles: Sometimes hands, legs, or other body parts are from different people!
Camera Angles: Angles make huge differences in how bodies look

🤔 Your Media Awareness:

Activity 4: Body Respect Pledge

Commit to treating all bodies with respect

Check the commitments you'll make to respect your body and others' bodies.
I will not comment on other people's bodies - their body is not my business
I will speak kindly about my own body - even when I'm frustrated with it
I will focus on what my body can DO - not just how it looks
I will take care of my body - with healthy food, movement, and rest
I will challenge negative body talk - when I hear it from myself or others
I will remember that diversity is beautiful - all bodies are good bodies

Final Reflection

"What's one thing about your body that you've taken for granted but are now grateful for? How will you show your body more appreciation this week?"

Congratulations!
