What You'll Learn

Every day you make choices—what to wear, what to eat, how to spend your time, and how to treat others. Some decisions are easy, but others are tough! Learning good decision-making skills helps you make smart choices that you'll feel proud of.

By the end of this workshop, you'll have practical tools to think through decisions and make choices that match your values and goals.

Key Learning Points

1

Big vs Small Decisions

Some choices need lots of thought (big decisions), while others can be made quickly (small decisions). Know the difference!

2

Think Before You Choose

Take time to consider your options and their consequences. Rushing usually leads to regret.

3

Use a Decision Process

Having a step-by-step method (like DECIDE) makes tough choices easier and clearer.

4

Learn from Every Choice

Even "wrong" decisions teach valuable lessons. Reflect on what happened and grow from it.

Activity 1: Types of Decisions

Classify decisions as big, medium, or small

Read each decision and choose how much thought it needs:

🟢 Small Decisions

Quick choices with low impact

  • What to wear today
  • What snack to eat
  • Which game to play

🟡 Medium Decisions

Need some thought

  • Joining a new activity
  • How to spend allowance
  • Inviting friends over

🔴 Big Decisions

Need careful consideration

  • Changing schools
  • Standing up to a bully
  • Telling truth vs lying

Practice: Classify These Decisions

Should I try out for the school play?

Which sandwich should I eat for lunch?

Activity 2: The DECIDE Method

A 6-step process for tough decisions

Learn this powerful decision-making framework:

The DECIDE Method

D
Define the Problem

What decision needs to be made?

E
Explore Your Options

What are all your choices?

C
Consider the Consequences

What might happen with each option?

I
Identify Your Values

What matters most to you?

D
Decide and Act

Choose the best option and do it!

E
Evaluate the Result

How did it go? What did you learn?

Practice: Use DECIDE on a Real Decision

Activity 3: Pros and Cons

Weigh the good and bad of each choice

Make a T-chart to see both sides of a decision clearly:

Think of a Decision You're Facing:

👍 PROS (Good Things)

👎 CONS (Challenges)

Final Reflection

"Think about a decision you made this week. Did you make it quickly or carefully? What would you do differently next time?"

Congratulations!
