What You'll Learn

Your inner voice is like a coach that's with you 24/7. It can either cheer you on or bring you down. In this workshop, you'll learn how to recognize negative self-talk, replace it with positive thoughts, and become your own best supporter.

By the end of this workshop, you'll have practical tools to change the way you think about yourself and handle challenging situations with confidence.

Key Learning Points

1

Your Inner Voice Matters

The way you talk to yourself affects how you feel and what you do. Positive self-talk builds confidence, while negative self-talk can hold you back.

2

Recognize Negative Patterns

Learn to spot when your inner voice is being mean or unfair. Common patterns include "I can't," "I'm not good enough," and "Everyone is better than me."

3

Challenge Negative Thoughts

Question negative thoughts by asking: "Is this really true?" "Would I say this to a friend?" "What's the evidence?"

4

Practice Positive Self-Talk

Replace negative thoughts with positive, realistic ones. Instead of "I can't do this," try "This is hard, but I can learn with practice."

Activity 1: Meet Your Inner Voice

Let's identify how your inner voice sounds

Choose the statement that best describes what you usually think when you make a mistake:

😞 The Critic

"Ugh, I'm so stupid! I always mess things up. I'll never get better at this."

😐 The Observer

"I made a mistake. That happens sometimes. Let me try again."

😊 The Coach

"Mistakes help me learn! I'll figure this out with practice. I've got this!"

Activity 2: Thought Transformer

Turn negative thoughts into positive ones

Practice transforming negative self-talk into positive self-talk. Write your own positive versions:

❌ Negative: "I'm terrible at math. I'll never understand it."

✅ Positive:

❌ Negative: "Nobody likes me. I have no friends."

✅ Positive:

❌ Negative: "I always mess up. I can't do anything right."

✅ Positive:

Activity 3: Your Power Phrases

Create personal affirmations you can use anytime

Power phrases are short, positive statements you can say to yourself when you need a confidence boost. Create at least 5 power phrases that feel true to you.

💡 Examples of Power Phrases:

  • ✨ "I am brave and capable"
  • ✨ "I learn from my mistakes"
  • ✨ "I believe in myself"
  • ✨ "I can do hard things"
  • ✨ "I am enough just as I am"

Activity 4: 7-Day Challenge

Build your positive self-talk habit

Check off each day as you practice positive self-talk. Try to catch yourself using negative self-talk and replace it with something positive!
Day 1: Say one positive thing about yourself in the mirror
Day 2: Catch one negative thought and replace it with a positive one
Day 3: Use a power phrase when something feels difficult
Day 4: Tell yourself "I can learn this" when facing a challenge
Day 5: Write down 3 things you did well today
Day 6: Use positive self-talk after making a mistake
Day 7: Share a power phrase with someone else

Final Reflection

"How do you think changing your self-talk will help you in challenging situations? What's one specific time this week when you can practice positive self-talk?"
