Why Does Online Behaviour Matter?

Everything you do online leaves a digital footprint. How you act online is just as important as how you act in person—and sometimes, it lasts even longer! Learn to be kind, respectful, and responsible in the digital world.

1

🌟 Golden Rule

Treat others online the way you want to be treated

2

🤝 Good Citizen

Be a positive contributor to online communities

3

🛡️ Stop Bullying

Recognize and respond to cyberbullying appropriately

4

💭 Think First

Always think before you post, comment, or share

⚖️

Activity 1: Would You Say It In Person?

Learn that online behavior should match real-life kindness

Instructions: Decide if each comment is OKAY or NOT OKAY to say online.

"Great job on your project! I loved your creativity!"

"You're so stupid. Delete your account."

"I disagree with you, but I respect your opinion."

"LOL everyone thinks you're weird"

💡 The Golden Rule Online:

If you wouldn't say it to someone's face, don't type it online. Words hurt just as much (or more) in texts and comments.

🤔

Activity 2: The THINK Method

Use this checklist before posting anything online

Instructions: Before you post, ask yourself these 5 questions:
T

TRUE

Is it true?

H

HELPFUL

Is it helpful?

I

INSPIRING

Is it inspiring?

N

NECESSARY

Is it necessary?

K

KIND

Is it kind?

Activity 3: Recognizing and Stopping Cyberbullying

Learn what cyberbullying is and how to respond

Instructions: Identify which scenarios are cyberbullying and learn how to respond.

Someone keeps sending you mean messages even after you asked them to stop.

YES - Repeated mean behavior is bullying.

A group chat is making fun of someone who isn't in the chat.

YES - Talking about someone behind their back to hurt them is bullying.

Someone posts an embarrassing photo of you without permission.

YES - Posting content to embarrass or humiliate is bullying.

🚨 If You See Cyberbullying:

  • Don't join in - Even liking or laughing makes it worse
  • Support the target - Send them a kind message privately
  • Tell an adult - Parents, teachers, or counselors can help
  • Report it - Use the platform's reporting tools
  • Save evidence - Screenshot the bullying before reporting

Activity 4: Your Digital Footprint

Everything you do online creates a permanent record

Instructions: Understand that your online actions build your reputation for years to come.

Think About Your Digital Footprint:

💡 Remember:

"The internet is forever." Even if you delete something, screenshots exist. Always post like your grandma, your teacher, and your future boss are watching—because they might be!

📝

Activity 5: Create Your Digital Citizenship Contract

Make a personal commitment to be your best self online

Instructions: Check each commitment you promise to uphold as a responsible digital citizen.
